Diffculty of sharing connection between linux and windows?

I get my internet connection from the coffee shop downstairs. (the owner is my landlord) which is an unsecured wireless network. (I do everything sensitive from work0. Anyway I just finished a mythtv box and wanted to know if I could use windows connection sharing to give a connection to the linux box. The thing is I hear you need a static address on the xp box to get this to work. Is there any way around this?

If you do need a static IP for that it's a deficiency of Windows and has nothing to do with any other OS with which you might be sharing the connection. If you can get the ICS working in Windows, the Linux box will have no problem using it.

The static IP is on the network connection that acts as the router and dhcp server. Your internet connection will remain dynamic.

And the static IP will be assigned automatically by ICS. It's not something you have to set. I believe it's in the 192.168.0.x network. That or 192.168.1.x Where your ICS host box will automatically be assigned .1 Your DHCP clients will get .2, .3 etc... This will also be done by ICS and it's DHCP server. Nothing to configure once you enable ICS on a multihomed machine. Idiot proof for the most part however it's only something you would install because of the price, free. There are significantly more reliable and efficient software NAT/Proxy solutions, however ICS works ok generally.
