what's the diff between north and south on mobo's? and why does the via and sis have degraded performance when it comes to intel cpu mobo's VS pure intel mobo's?

North Bridge contains memory controller and AGP/PCI-e port and connects to CPU and south bridge.
South Bridge is controller for all other integrated I/O

Intel North Bridge has superior Memory Controller
