diff. between dual core and HTT

aren't the two basically same thing? with HTT you can run multiple apps smoother somewhat and the same is with dual core. my dual core seems to run it smoother, is this because there's actual 2 cores running rather than like logical cpus when using HTT?

HTT is hypertransport ; you are thinking of dual core vs hyperthreading or HT. Anyway you are right to a point but HT was something like 20 or 30 (this may be way off) % increase in a multithreaded app, whereas real dual core would yield >50% increase, and so forth.

k, im tired so that was probbaly wrong, but put simply, dual core > HT

Dual core is much better than HT. Otherwise, HT processors would be the same price or dual cores would be really cheap.

I've used this analogy before...

Hyperthreading is basically a "virtual CPU", and it's like taking 2 lanes of traffic and merging them into one. Sometimes it helps the traffic flow better, but it can also slow it down more...it depends on the drivers.

Dual core is having 2 seperate roads...the more cars you need to move, the better your efficiency gets. However, with fewer cars it won't make a difference. The advantage is that it will often help but never harm your performance...and since it's 2 full "roads", it can help a LOT more than a merging road does...
