A GF4MX440SE is a DDR MX 420

A GF4MX440 is just an overclocked version of the SE

Most MX-440SE's are either *underclocked* DDR cards, or use SDR RAM. You must be very cautious when buying an "SE" because they love to slip past some SDR, low-clockers that are barely better than a 420.

On the other hand, I bought an PNY MX 420 that Powerstrip and the nVidia drivers recognized as a 440 MX SE, with DDR. There appears to be some variation in what they're selling as 440MX SE, to be sure.
(my elderly aunt now has the PNY card that has a PNY 420 label, and a MSI 440 label)

MX440 SE cards either come clocked at 250/166 or 250/333 depending on whether they are sporting SDRAM or DDR. A "stock" MX440 will be clocked at 270/400, while a few of the newer 8X AGP variations have higher clocks than that.

My Albatron Gf4mx440sen has 64mb ddr, and 4ns chips. Ships with 270gpu clock. The memory bandwidth is 6.4gb in stead of the 5.3 stated at newegg since they are building em with the 4ns now. Very pleased with this card since I just can't afford more right now :)

Here's my message ripped from a similar thread last month:-

The main difference is in the core and memory speed:-

mx440=270mhz core & 400mhz memory
mx440se=250mhz core & 332mhz memory

Here's some benchmark scores for a regular MX440 and a MX440SE tested with a AMD Athlon XP 1700 processor, tested using very high quality settings:-

(results are=mx440se, mx440)

Quake 3:-

800x600x32bit=162,174
1024x768x32bit=122,141
1280x1024x32bit=102,120

Quake 3 2xfsaa:-

800x600x32bit=111,129

Quake 3 4xfsaa:-

800x600x32bit=56,66

Return to castle wolfenstein:-

800x600x32bit=124,140
1024x768x32bit=89,116
1280x1024x32bit=73,100

Serious Sam 2:-

800x600x32bit=84,120
1024x768x32bit=57,84
1280x1024x32bit=39,69

UT2003 flyby (Antalus):-

800x600x32bit=75,86
1024x768x32bit=51,59
1280x1024x32bit=34,40

I'll be updating these scores soon with some xfx geforce fx 5200 results, it's going to be interesting to see how much faster (if any) the 5200 is to the old GF4 MX440.
