Diet soda...

Uh well I drink like 10 sodas a day. If they weren't diet, that'd be like... 1700 calories, just from soda. So... I'd say it helps.

It does help you lose weight if you drink quite a bit of regular soda. But, in my experience, it's only temporary unless you make a lifetime lifestyle adjustment. (i.e. don't eat more damn candy after you cut the soda).

I drink ~6, so I am thinking about it. I decided that little debby snacks were BS, and stopped snacking on those. Went down from 210lbs to 185. Next objective is 175. (still havn't done much exersize, gotta start that too)

yea, that was my first step. Eventually I hope to drop the soda, but caffiene addictions are bad.

I dropped regular soda years and years ago, but my diet soda consumption has only gone up. Would help if I liked water, I could ditch it altogether. Caffeine does nothing for me anymore..

I drink a TON of pop. Tons. Seriously, I probably go though at least 4 cases or so a week. Hell, my office at work (my actual office, not the company or floor or building) has vending machine just for me, and I fill that at least 2x a week. Seriously, the thing is like 30 inchesfrom my desk. (One of the maytag skyboxs) Until 2 years ago, that was all regular, generally Coke & Mountain Dew. I made a resolution to switch to diet, and I did.

2 years later, with the same, if not higher pop intake, and I have lost exactly zero weight. Granted at that time I was throwing freight around for 10-12 hours a day, probably burning around 4000 cals a day (I actually lost weight, ~15 or so lbs, drinking all that regular pop, which the pop amounted to over 2000 cals a day plus breakfast, lunch, a bag of chips or a polish for a 'snack', and dinner ). Now I really just type all day except on the weekends.

There are unfortunately a number of negatives associated with diet soda (citric acid levels, particular sweetners, etc).

It's a difficult switch from diet soda to straight water (I've actually done this recently). I've found my particular hurdle was overcome by simply having the water extremely cold - to the point of being partially frozen. As a result, I am drinking more and more water these days (approxmately 5 to 6 liters per day).

If straight water is too much of a leap, you can vary straight consumption with any of the number of sugar-free drink mixes (Crystal Light, Wylers, etc) available.

Really, I don't think it is a smart switch. You will probably end up drinking more. Soda companies are banking something serious on this fact. Diet soda is not satisfying in the least. I tried a coke zero 2 liter just to give it a shot, drank a bunch and it was not as satisfying as a 12 oz of regular coke. I drink a lot of water and an occasional soda, thats the way to go. People drink WAY too much soda. it has to be one of the worst things for you too. there is also a lot of debate about the chemicals in diet soda, but I don't really know anything about it.

How about exercise? No experiment needed. Exercise more and eat less and you will lose weight.
