Probably some of the worst logic and science I've read in a while:

A: They claimed the same thing about saccharin, even though I feel saccharin is the only artificial sweetener with true merit. To answer your question, if the body is digesting properly, anything you put into the body will be assimilated. If it happens to be rancid, the stomach will throw it out immediately by vomiting or diarrhea. It is totally out of the realm of biological science to think the body will not immediately attack a toxic chemical. Henceforth, migraines from aspartame and diarrhea from Splenda.

Now, to add a note to this: if the body is fed an indigestible product such as plastic (like in margarine) that it is incapable of dissolving through normal digestion, it will pass through undigested (if it doesn't get stuck in the gall bladder, that is.) So, if sucralose is indigestible due to its laboratory compounding, then we have yet another serious health problem to consider, don't you think?

Technology is great, but we sure don't need to be eating it!


First sentence of the answer sounds like saying, "I think my girlfriend is cheating on me because my last one did and lied to me about it."

...not to mention the scientific problems with saying that the body immediately attacks Splenda when it is consumed because she assumes that, because it contains chlorinated molecules, it's a toxic chemical. Salt is chlorinated sodium... should we panic?

For years, saccharin has been believed to increase the risk for cancer. I guess the doctor is selective as to what food additive studies she believes are junk science. Which "experts" should we believe, doc?

She mentions that things that are indigestible are "serious health problems to consider". Saccharin is indigestible as well... but it has "true merit", according to the doctor?

I'm not saying Splenda is or is not safe... I'm just pointing out some of the fallacies in her arguments.

You can buy it at a lot of corner stores and grocers now. It looks like diet lemon, since it's got a yellow stripe. It's nasty anyway.

I like the Splenda version a lot more than the old Diet Coke.

Even though I drank the old Diet Coke regularly (because we get free coke and diet coke at my office and I can't in good conscience drink several cans of regular coke while sitting at a desk all day) I never liked it's taste. Far too flat tasting with very little sweetness and the aftertaste was horrible. Splenda has an aftertaste too, but I find it far less offensive.

I drink soda for the sweetness taste and in that regard (as far as Diet Coke is concerned), Splenda wins hands down as far as non-sugar solutions go. The NutraSweet version was far too bitter for my tastes, at least in Diet Coke. There's other NutraSweet diet sodas out there which are actually quite good.
