Didn't realize how fast my Toshiba A215 was !!!

I feel like I was waterboarded for the last 8 hours...

How can there be so much difference in lappys from the same manufacturer?

OMG!!! This ^%$& thing is soooo S-L-O-W! Vista Basic with an Intel processor and 512MB RAM...

Apologies to anybody I blasted for hating on Toshibas!

I thought they were all like mine... 😱

Gawd!!! She left it here last night!

Hrm...

I got 2GB of SO-DIMM RAM sitting here.

I wonder if that would make a difference?!?!?

1GB for Vista is a necessity (especially since at least 32MB is taken for the Integrated Graphics.)

2GB is a real sweet spot.

I am running Vista HP 32 (with the Aero - Basic does not have that) on a 2.0GHz Sempron, 128MB integrated Radeon Xpress x200 and 2GB of PC 2700 RAM.

Perfect for everyday tasks.

LoL!

My mother-in-law will kill me if I take her new lappy apart...

Then again, swapping out RAM in a Toshiba only takes 2-3 minutes.

Hrm...

Hell, it's only 11:00 PM - the night is young! 😀

LoL! Took a half-hour to find the RAM - it had migrated to the garage somehow. 😀

Anyway, I installed the 2GB in this former POS Toshiba A135, and now it *feels* just as fast as my A215, soooo... I guess that was it.

Unbelievable! What a shocker! I've NEVER seen RAM make that much difference!!!

Before, it took about 2-3 minutes for Word 2007 to come up (no kidding) and about a minute for Microsoft Mail. Now they just pop right up like 'normal'.

Well, I'm gonna play around with this a while, before taking out the RAM...

BTW, this thing just had 1x512MB stick in it. Is that kosher? I thought DDR RAM was supposed to be installed in matching pairs?!?!?!

Just ran the Vista 'Performance Information & Tools' thingie...

The 'Memory operations per second' rating went from 2.0 to 4.3! 😉

Well, I gotta say...

This has been an eye opener!

As JustaGeek said, "2GB is a real sweet spot."

I originally had this 2GB of memory in my A215, and it ran great - 4GB is even better!

I've never tried 1GB, but I'm here to tell you that running Vista on 512MB RAM sucks! Even Vista Basic...

Okay, I'm gonna yank the memory and send this machine back to the fiery pits of hell...

EDIT

Back to 512MB... and creeping like a tortoise!

Even screen generation takes longer - like the video card is dragging...

There ought to be a law against selling junk like this to old ppl!
