i just had a papa johns pizza for lunch (had to take an early lunch).

anyway, it's not that great, not bad but not great.

and btw, the slogan was a complete crock, they use the SAME ingredients as Dominos or Pizza Hut.

papa johns, pizza hut, and dominos all taste different. So how are they using the exact same ingredients?

btw they all suck, Maria's Pizza here in baltimore is better than crack.

This place I ate at in Austin called Mangia has uber pizza.

I think Papa Johns can be pretty good, but the quality seems to differ depending on where I get it.

I think they got sue because they claim they are the best pizza or something.
They lost and change it to "better ingredients better pizza".

They're ok pizza chain, still not as good as Pizza Hut though.
But best pizza will be some relatively unknown local pizza place.

the basic ingredients are the same, the differences really are minor, spices, % of various spices, how it's baked etc.

but yes, the cheese and flour are really the same. Papa Johns claim that they used Better ingredients was proven incorrect.

googled the link.

it's the phrase "better ingredients, better pizza" that was considered False and Misleading.

the best pizza is always local pizza, or pizza from california pizza kitchen.

You need to learn better Google skills:
"But a federal appeals court later said the jurors were never asked if consumers relied on Papa John's "better" claims when deciding what pizza to buy. So last September, the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals overturned the verdict and ruled in favor of Papa John's...the U.S. Supreme Court recently put this case to rest, turning down Pizza Hut's appeal."

The funny thing is, all of their logos on everything still have the slogan ;) But, one of my managers (I work for Papa John's) has worked at three different major pizza joints, and she said that our stuff is better than Pizza hut and Little Ceasars.

The sauce is pretty different - Papa John's has their tomatoes canned at a certain time of the year, and they take special care to make sure it's high quality stuff. And the fact that our pizzas tend to be MUCH less greasier than the competition helps too ;)

According to her, the higher quality isn't just confined to the food - she says our business practice is better, and the quality of the materials and tools of the store is also higher.

I've never worked at any other pizza joint, but many of our employees have, and most of them usually validate the claim.

But when you say "Better" ingredients, that can be considered an opinion. I doubt the slogan would be deemed as false advertising. If PJ's pulls it or has already, it was only avoid costly litigation to prove something that doesn't matter.

Now, is it better because it's 2am or is it just plain better? ;)

They claim better because they do use different ingredients - most of the stuff is canned rather than frozen, for example. Green peppers, onions, etc are actually fresh and cut in the store (I know, I had to do them plenty of times). Dough is also not frozen. It's refrigerated.

I think the claims are true- I prefer PJs over any of the other "major" chains.

From what I've heard from people that worked at the PJ's store (and have previously worked at other chain stores) I work at between semesters, PJ's in fact does use better ingredients. As a driver, the first things we had to do every day was prep. We had to open cans of sauce (not frozen and delivered to the store twice a week) and mix in seasoning. Green peppers and onions had to be cut every day (I believe we got ours from local suppliers). Dough is refrigerated, not frozen. In fact, I'm pretty sure that there's a freezer anywhere in the store. It's been a long time since I've even had pizza from any other chain because I think Papa John's is so much better.

I imagine that suit was filed primarily because PJs is a large chain.
Every Pizza joint around here claims to have "The Best Pizza in Town", and I've never heard of any legal challenges.

does anyone ever take ad taglines to be rational and well-balanced statements concerning the product in question?

besides, for pizza...i cant imagine living in a town that doesnt have a privatly own business that is not 10x better than any pizza chain.

I had some good pizza at Grimaldi's in Brooklyn while on a business trip a month back. Pretty tasty, although they don't deliver.

In the world of the Federal Trade Commission, "better" and "best" don't mean what you might think. Normally we think "best" means superior to all others. To the FTC, "best" means no others are superior and "better" means superior to all others.

You can say your product is the "best" if no other product is superior. If you say your product is "better", it needs to be superior to all others.

I pity all you folk who don't live any where near the Cincinnati area and haven't had the chance to get LaRosa's pizza.

Unless of course you live in chicago or new york and have better pizza than the entire world.
