I am rather confused about how my Dell Precision T3500 which originally came with Windows 7 Professional was able to upgrade to Windows 10 Professional seemingly for free.

Here are some specifics on what I am seeing:

In the Control Panel - Under Systems I see:
Windows is activated

In Settings - Under Activation I see:
Edition - Windows 10 Pro
Activation - Windows is activated with a digital license linked to your Microsoft account

Honestly I am rather confused by this, for when I check the Activation Key it doesn't match the Windows 7 Profession key it is different. Although I do see an a key for Internet Explorer and it is the same my original, which is bizarre.

Can anyone tell me what is going on here, I thought the free upgrade thing for Windows 10 was long past.

It goes on, from what we can tell, indefinitely (or at least until 7, 8, and 8.1 reach EOL). There is another thread anound here about people who were still doing the upgrade earlier this year.
