I have a candy-bar style phone and lock the keys frequently when i put it in my pocket.
When locked, you have to push a button then * to unlock.

However, dialing 911 with the phone locked prompts you on whether you want to make this "emergency call". thought this was pretty cool and was wondering if this was a feature common on most phones.

Yes, it is. :)

A friend of mine kept getting calls back from 911 saying that his phone kept dialing "911", but he wasn't pushing the buttons. Turns out it was the change in his pocket that was pressing the keys in sequence 9,1,1, despite the keylock being on.

It's common among all the Nokias I've owned and operated. Not sure about other manufacturers.

Yup, 911 is an emergency # so it works with the keys locked incase there is an "emergency" Did you know that cell phones that are not signed up for service can still dial 911

Nokias do the 911 bit.

I am tempted to disable it, but then I wonder....what if I ever need it that bad.

Decisions, decisions, decisions.

I like it when sheeple show off their new phones and haven't altered the default lock code. I like to change their code and lock their phone.

Is that morally wrong?

I think you can dial 911 even if the phone is not activated or the service has been discontinued.

that is correct. i think even a few carriers take old donated phones and give them to people who dont have phones but can keep one handy for emergencies.

i have a non-flip flip phone, and I prefer it to flipping non flip flip-phones without a flip.

This is why I HATE non flip phones, I always fear that I'll accidentally dial 911 when it's in my pocket.

<-- :heart:s his flip-phone.

omg, i have had some bad experiences with this. The phone will do that on its own from myleg hitting stuff and what not, and will dial 911 without me knowing. I then get a call a few minutes later from the police asking if everything is ok, cause I had dialed them.... this has happened about 5 times now and i hope i dont get in trouble from it
