Did your ASRock 775Dual-VSTA (shipped bios) boot with your conroe?

Wondering what the chances of my just-ordered ASRock 775Dual-VSTA / E6600 combination booting without problems using the shipping bios on the board?

I see some mixed results.. any rhyme or reason ? Don't need to install Winxp on it, just boot enough to update from a floppy..

Am I going to be stuck?

Yes. Mine shipped with BIOS version P1.10-11A or something like that and I simply plugged in my E6400 and poof it worked.

Did you actually confirm that the sticker was truely the bios loaded on the chip? I have the same sticker on mine and have an E6300 waiting. I just don't have all of the components yet! :(

was just wondering if the 6600 (since it is conroe core vs. allendale?) would make a difference in the booting..

Yup because when I loaded the BIOS for the first time it said version 1.1. It was also on the sticker too.

I doubt it, it even says Conroe-Ready on the box!

Will that board work with a x1900xt?
Am thinking about building a cheap Conroe system for my son?
I want to try my stuff with the system first..

I had no issues with the 1.1 bios booting B1 or B2 stepping cores from the E6300 up to the X6800 (it was the only shipping board we have tested that did this). However, update to the 1.70 bios once you are up and running. :)

I did not have any issues with a X1900XT until I started to push the FSB or overclock the video card, ended up with a couple of brownouts during stress testing with either overclocked. Otherwise, the system worked fine, you will lose about 3~7% in framerates depending upon resolution and AA/AF settings compared to the x8/x16 PCI-E lane boards. I have noticed a small improvement with the 1.70 bios.

Since we seemed to have answered the question that you can indeed post a Conroe on an older BIOS, how about a memory question. Can (has anyone) you run PC6400 (DDR2-800) on this board at the slower speeds supported by it? Has anyone run OCZ-DDR2-800 Gold on this board?

BIOS version per sticker is: P1.10-13B

won't get a chance to check if it will boot my E6400 until next week. Fingers crossed!!

update: the Asrock 775Dual-VSTA motherboard booted up with BIOS version 1.10 and recognized my E6400 processer without any problems. Once I installed Windows XP Pro, I flashed to version 1.80

Mine came with the 1.3 bios and my E6400 booted right up. I then flashed it to 1.7 and have recently flashed to the 1.8. This board has been remarkably easy to work with.
