Did you take the GMAT? If so what did you score?

I'm looking into taking the GMAT and just curious what fellow ATOTers scored on it and how much time you spent getting prepared for it. The mean score is 500ish. Thanks.

Wow 750 that is great, nice job! I picked up some self study books and it looks like I'll have to put some studying in. My math is rusty and my grammar is rustier. 😉

I got a 680, I think it was. I did very little preparation because I had about a week's notice that I needed to take it. I rocked on the verbal section, but it's been a long time since I've done math so that score was crappy. Got the max on the writing section (6). I want to brush up on my math and retake the test to break 700 just for my ego's sake, but the military won't pay for another one this year. 🙂

I'm not applying for business schools -- it's for a military school.

All I can say is....don't get your MBA if you value any free time. I'm in the program now and what little time I had before....ouch! I don't think I've seen my wife this week.

When do you suggest we take it if we want to keep our options open out of college? Junior fall? Is it only administered once a year?

I only ask because I'm might be in Sydney next fall, which may put a roadblock in those plans to take it if it's only administered once.

It is administered multiple times a year and all around the world.

610 and I used the princeton review 1 week crash course book for 6 hours the day before the test.

I'm gonna retake it in november or december. I need 680-730 to get into one of the 5 programs I'm sending in the applications to.

And for study guides use the Barrons and Kaplans books, they're better than 90% of the GMAT stuff at amazon.com (I know because I bought like 8 Gmat books).

For you kids in college that want to take the GMAT. Take it at the end of senior year. You won;t have much time to study once you get a job.

The score is good for 5 years but schools want to see scores taken within the past 3 years. 3 years is the least amount of full time work you can do and still get into a good program. You can get away with 2 if it was a super competitive job and only had a 2 year contract. Like a junior analyst.

Don't worry about the writing part, as long as you get a 4 or better, it's ok. But the score HAS to hit the program average or better. If you score below the school average they won't let you in, unless you know someone powerful and/or rich.

and guy who was complaining about not having any time. Don't complain. You're not in med or law school, compared to those guys you have it easy.

780 last Saturday 🙂

I actually studied by reading newspaper editorials in ridiculous amounts...It helped me bring my grammar buck up to par (crappy after being away from college for some time now) and it helped in my argument essay-writing skills.

The math portions, I pretty much just winged it.

But w/crappy GPA, all for naught 🙁
