Did you study for the SAT?

Well, did you?

If you did, do you think it helped?

If you didn't, do you wish that you had?

I didn't study and I was happy with my score.
*Edit* I got a 1430.. 770 math, 660 verbal. I probably could have used some help with the verbal.

no. in fact, the course my mom signed me up for i only went to in order to get out of class. then i set the materials on fire because the methods they wanted you to use were sheer bullsh!t.

I studied my ass off for the LSAT and it worked 🙂

The SAT though? Didnt study and was satisfied...

Get a good SAT review book, like Princeton Review. Princeton Review helped my verbal score a lot, but they have very good strategies for both Math and Verbal. It's only like $20-30, and won't take you more than 15-20 hours or so to work through. It's well worth it.

I took the PSAT, studied Verbal for a whole year, took the PSAT for REAL now (the previous didn't count since I took it early as practice) and got the same score. That kinda killed my motivation for studying for the SAT. lol... still, my SAT score > PSAT Score

My parents bought me a computer program for the SAT. I didn't do the lessons; I only took the practice tests. I think the prior exposure to the test before the actual test date helped a lot: I was really happy with my score.

no, got a 1270.

I got the same exact score, and also didn't study. How did it break down for you? I got a 590 math, 680 verbal (yeah, I know I suck at t3h math.)

I didn't study for SAT, but I am studying for GREs with a $30 book from Kaplan just because the math section I need to get 770-800 on to be competitive in grad school applications. Good news is that they say your score is similar to your SAT score and my SAT score was in that range. Without studying for the SAT, I was satisfied with my score.

Which is easier to raise? Verbal or Math?

I haven't taken the SAT but I didn't study for the ACT and got a 34. I thought about doing some test prep and taking it again but I figured it's not worth the trouble.

You're nuts if you don't study. Nobody cares about your score. The important statistic is where on the curve you stand ("percentile"). So, studying, which will not make you score worse, and likely make it better, improves your standing.

I am amazed by the pathetic macho attitude I sense from those who are proud to not study for exams. I used to be that way and learned my lesson. 😀

I read stuff about the test itself, and I brushed up my math formula's, latin roots, etc. Probably spent about 20 hours overall preparing, but did not study at all the week before the test. I did fine, except my math which I just didn't have enough of at the time.

No studying here. Back in 1990 when I took the SAT I got a 1200.

I have no idea how that compares to todays scores, someone told me once that they changed the way they scored SAT's in the mid-90's, but I was never able to confirm it.
