Well...too late for you my friend. 88 stores and 3 DC's affecting 1,500 employees or 41% of their total staff. This time the stores and DC's aren't here in town as they previously got some of them in the earlier round of cutbacks. Walmart is squeezing their suppliers to cut prices up to 15% at the same time so things are definitely tightening up out there boys and girls.

a Kmart cousin goes tits up. nobody shed a tear.

I won't feel sorry for companies that struggle to compete on a relatively fair playing field (which I believe this is); I will, however, feel sorry for the people who are suddenly out of work through no fault of their own. Hopefully they'll quickly find new positions.

I fully expect some other large retailers to go the same way this year and I do feel for the people who are losing their jobs in this market segment. Aldi is expanding which might provide some of them with jobs as are several other small retail companies but the prognosis for this segment is weak.

There are too many malls in America. I read somewhere that it's a consequence of some tax loophole.
Anyways, should be fun to see what they are replaced with as more commerce moves online. Parks? Wouldn't that be a hoot.

I didn't buy a single thing from them. Once I went into a store, just because I was curious what they even sold, but it wasn't the kind of stuff I'd buy as an impulse anyway so I quickly left.

Went in one once. Made me Best buy, hell, even circuit shitty.

Could not care. Amazon is awesome and there are too many hideous mini malls full of overpriced shit stores with poor inventory.

Far too often, I leave a b&m disappointed and my time wasted.

I'm honestly surprised it's taken this long. I've not stepped in a physical store to actually purchase an item other than groceries in years. Last time was to buy a cable modem that got price matched to Newegg, so the store lost like $80.

Several in my hometown are being redeveloped as mixed use developments. There are a ton of malls because the market at one point supported them. Online sales is slaughtering that market these days so we need fewer malls to serve the market that remains.

There was a tax treatment that made commercial real estate investment desirable but it isn't the cause of the number of malls that were built.
