Pre-ordering anything before it goes gold is stupid. Pre-ordering anything before any comprehensive reviews is risky. I won't be pre-ordering it before I read a couple of reviews.

Well I found the LE at eCost for $37.00 plus 2.95 handling. Free shipping. So I cancelled my preorder of 2 years at EBGames and jumped all over that!!

How is preordering Halo 2 stupid or risky? You know EXACTLY what you're getting - even if it's EXACTLY like the original Halo, it would still be worth it. If you think it's risky preordering it, you're just not a diehard Halo fan, or even an XBox fan.

I didn't, but I suppose I should. Does it come with anything free? That'd be the only reason to pre-order, since nothing runs out/short these days. I think it's going to be a great game, and I don't play any PC games anymore, so it's one of the few XBox FPSes I'm looking forward to.

I had H2 preordered, but then I bought a house and the shipping address changed, so I just cancelled it and I'll buy it eventually.

What price did everyone order for?

I've seen Halo 2 for $48.99 and Halo 2 - Limited Edition for $50.99 with $1.40 shipping.

How did you get it that cheap? It's listed at $52.00 for the LE

It was a one-day thing like 2 weeks ago. Found it on FatWallet, jumped on it right away. Last time I checked, they had upped it to like 45 dollars. Is it higher now?

Ecost ran a special a few weeks ago for $37 for the LE. Then AT HD pwn3d it so they jacked the price up.

Pre-ordering before it goes gold is stupid because I don't like fronting my money for an indefinite amount of time to anyone. I really like Halo, but I wouldn't pay for it again if Halo2 was exactly the same as the original Halo.

Pre-ordering after it goes gold is risky because you don't know if the game was properly debugged, if the controls are going to be horrid, etc. (Granted, most flagship games don't have this problem).

Anyhow, I'm not such a die-hard fan that I need to have Halo2 the absolutely first day it's out, so why would i pre-order?

If you order from like EB or something, they dont even charge your card till it ships. It's basically just putting your name on a waiting list and it'll almost guarantee you a copy. So stop your hating.

You're not fronting your money - vendors aren't allowed to charge your card fully until it ships out anyway. You're just reserving your copy - everyone is going to want Halo 2 - I'm lucky enough that I have 7 Targets, 6 Walmarts, 6 malls with EBX and Gamestops all inside of them, not to mention 8 independent Gamestops outside of malls, and dozens of mom and pop shops around here that it's impossible not to find a copy of Halo 2, but if you live in Crapville, Somestate with one Target, good luck getting Halo 2. The actual ship date has been announced - all preordering does is save you a copy and saves your ass a trip down to the store. Your CC will get charged when it ships out just as if you ran down to the store. (I have mine with free overnight shipping)

I do agree that preordering certain games is risky, but you know the flagship stuff (the Splinter Cells, the Halos, the PGRs, the KOTOR's) - you know exactly what you're getting when you preorder the game. It's not like they changed everything significantly that you have to relearn everything from scratch.

And I was making the statement about preordering b/c you said preordering anything before it goes gold is risky. You KNOW this game, like Doom 3 and Half Life 2, will go gold without their respective publishers even doing any marketing for the game. It's a damn given.

Ive only preordered 2 games ever...Burnout 3 (coming out in Sept 2004) and of course Halo 2 (Nov. 9th). RagingBITCH is right, most places don't charge your card until they ship or the day that you pick it up from the store.
