I am waiting my gtx 470 to arrive and wonder if you guys have some nice info to share about the behaviour of geforce cards with quadro drivers in professional apps like 3d,photoshop,encoding etc.
In my experience from my old 8800,nvidia has better drivers for those than ati,but back then I didnt try the quadro drivers.
My current 5850 does ok,but it is not without headaches.
So,tell us your experience with Quadro drivers plz.

Don't you have to modify something in the BIOS to be able to do that? Has it been established that it's possible with the 470 (or any newer cards, for that matter)?

You would need a Quadro card to gain most of the benefits of having a Quadro the largest of which tends to be support directly from nVidia.

Yes I know that for full benefits you need a Quadro card, but I reffered to the normal install of quadro drivers on a mainstream card using only the modified inf.
Just quadro drivers on a normal card.
I know that it wouldnt do wonders, but maybe a better compatibility for some software or maybe less since it is not a Quadro card...

I think I've read that they've made the "soft-mod" impossible with minor hardware differences on the current generation.

Nooo,I didnt mean that, maybe I have said it wrong.
I meant just a normal install of quadro drivers without modding it to a quadro which BTW cannot be done for my card.
I have seen on the net that people are using newest quadros for gaming so I wondered is there a difference in pro apps.

I have used pro cards since the 3dlabs wildcat days with everything from heidi drivers to custom opengl to quadro . Their used to be a huge difference but now the difference is really getting too close to call. If you are using one of the applications that have specifically been tweaked with Nvidia and the software application vendor working together then the quadro usually gives better performance. If you see game cards as listed as compatible but not certified then their is likely zero difference in the quadro card and the gaming card for that application.

In the end it depends on what application you are using. For 3dsmax or Maya I wouldn't even consider paying for a quadro card. The performance difference doesn't come close to justifying the expense.
