im on a 1.6 TBird now....would i really notice the difference going to the p4? every prog/game runs perfect on my system...i score 8600+ on 3dmark...think it would be worth it? there are so many threads on this, but non really on the gain in performance....just everyone talking mhz, and as we all know...more mhz doesnt always mean better performance

I'm still knocking the bugs out of my system - hopefully that will be taken care of with my new memory. I'm not too sure that the system will run that much smoother than yours. I did notice a difference going from my 1.6Tbird to a 1.6@only 2gig (for right now). I was using sdram and a Radeon 64meg VIVO though. I know have rdram and an 8500. Overall, the system seems much smoother than my tbird setup was and I can compress movies to divx in about 60% of the time.

My 3dmark score with the 8500 was only 8800 though. Granted I am running my ram below spec, and haven't yet hit the overclock that you are almost guaranteed, but our numbers are very close.

-edit, vid card is not overclocked at all. Running default 8500 retail speeds (whatever they might be)

holy cow...
not to brag or anything...
but my 1.8a came from newegg today.

i just tried to o/c this baby...
and bamm!
it went all the way up to 2790 without a sweat.
just to be safe... :) i pulled it down to 2700@150x18.
:)

that's 66% overclocking.
better than anything that i've heard.... or seen before.

i also ordered 1.6a... only 'cause people been saying 1.8a doesn't o/c as well as 1.6a.

i sure hope that is true. :)
if i can get 2.5-2.6 with that... i'll be smiling all week :)

i have 512mb crucial pc2100 ... nothing special.
and as for my powersupply... i got channel well's cwt-420atx12.
it's one of the best psu money can buy... :)
or at least my pocket will allow.

420w max.
it's got 245w at 5+3.3v. which is pretty impressive. :)

i got it to run at 1.65
which is a bit high...
but hey... i come from the land of AMD overclockers. :)
after seeing 1.85's all the time... 1.65 seems quite low to me.
i'm not too worried about things blowing up.

as long as this mobo/cpu serves me a year... i'll be happy.
by that time... i'm sure i'll be playing with something faster. :)

Wow, that's interesting! Is this with the retail Intel HSF? I've never heard of anyone getting near those speeds with a 1.8A. Myself, I run mine @ 2.25 GHz; I can't even POSt @ 2.4 GHz (133 fsb).

That is thebest 1.8a oc I have seen to date...hands down...air cooled right???

MIne will do 139 at 1.7v so I stuck with 133 at 1.65v...It also posted at 142 with 1.7v....don't like the voltage though

That's most likely cause a) you are using the wrong motherboard, or b) you haven't cranked voltage high enough. If you don't have a P4B266 or P4S333, the mainboard is the problem. If you have a P4B266 or P4S333, then your voltage isn't high enough. :)

i donno whether it's from malasia or costa rica.
does it say on the core? or on the box?
'cause i didn't bother the check on the core.
but on the box... it doesn't have that info.

i ordered 1.6a and 1.8a
i would've ordered 2 1.8a's but 'cause everyone here seems to get no further than 2.4ghz...
i decided to get 1.6a.

i haven't tested out my 1.6a
but i'll do that tonight.

and as for my mobo...
it's p4s333 as i stated earlier
and the max vcore on the bios is 1.7
i'm on 1.65v:)
