I'm from Nor Cal and currently go to school in So Cal. My parents are very insistent that I move back home but I'm not entirely fond of such an idea..only positives that I can really think of is the money saved and the appeasing of the parents. Otherwise having to adjust back to the not so indepedent would be rather dreadful..
How have your experiences been?

After my sophomore year in college I never looked back. At one point I was over 2000 miles from home, currently over 450 miles from home.

I'm back at home and working full time, but I plan on moving out within the next two months. I'm saving up a few thousand to get myself started (deposit for apartment, furniture, etc).

I've had to come home for thanksgiving since the dorms close over the weekend.

I want my own place, badly...

It's much easier to get along with your family when you aren't living with them.

I probably will for a bit after I graduate, unless I do a masters, in which case I will stay at uni, but when I have finished all my education, I will probably move back for a bit if I don't have a job lined up. If I do have a job to go into then I'll get a house of my own (probably renting) and not move back home, because there'll be no reason to.

I did, since I don't have a job lined up (and don't see me having one in the forseeable future)

First time no, I was married and bought a home.

Second time (1999), I moved back home for a few months, but then met a steady g/f so the need of my own place was more important.

There is a stigma of an adult living with their parents, however; I have found if it's not just because you never left home and that you are actually saving money for something important (ie a home/paying off school debt) it's over looked.

Bonus points: if you own your own car ;).

I think it's sad the number of 20-30+ somethings not only living at home, but don't even own a car due to relying on borrowing mom and dad's and just blowing their cash trying to pick up 18yo chicks or just party non-stop.

How is that mutually exclusive? Lots of people get jobs and live their lives while living at home.

I'm pretty sure I won't move back home after college. My parents live in a very small town and what I'm studying in college is nearly useless to most of the work available where they live.
