that the Radeon HD 5870's (and probably many other cards) have a piezo speaker in them, so if you don't have both power connectors attached, they beep continuously?

Just found that out today. Installed a new SSD and must've knocked the power out of my HD 5870. It was beeping continuously. Pulled out the BIOS case speaker... still beeping. Really confused. Started pulling out fans and everything memory until I noticed the PCIe power cables...

What a waste of two hours. Just felt like sharing.
 
I suppose I always thought it was on the motherboard. I am pretty sure the standard beep code for no video detected has always been either continuous beeping or 3 beeps consecutively. I think I had this happen with my 5850 a couple of years ago.

For future reference if you hear consecutive beeps and have no post/video on the screen, definitely check the video card first.
