So mebbee I'm a dubmass, but I pay lots of attention to posts about the latest via drivers, and I've been to Via's driver site often. . .

Bout a week ago, I was complaining about my MS Explorer Mouse being cranky and jerky. The older model seemed to work better (a bit) but I've been nagged ever since by the general sense of jerkiness from both the mouse and MS Natural Keyboard Pro. Performance just wasn't as smooth as it was on the old system, and it p*ssed me off.

I had an old K7M slot A board, and you had to apply a bunch of driver-patches to get the old thing working every time you installed Windows (not that I'm complaining about the board -- it's a good board). Anyway, I was sure that the Via USB filter was designed to improve performance on wonky old boards like the K7M and not on the spankin new boards like the A7M266. THIS PROVED NOT TO BE TRUE.

The Via USB Filter is meant for all Via-component boards. Period. God knows why they haven't just included the durn thing in the 4-in-1 patch.

Anyway, now the filter is installed. The keyboard and mouse are both smooth as silk and slick as sh*t. Even the USB modem goes snappier. Hoo-wah.

I've tried the USB Filter and it doesn't affect performance one way or the other for me.

Same here, especially in Win 2K.

Glad it worked for you, but on my Iwill KK266-R, USB worked from the get-go with no USB filter installed..in Win2k and Win98SE. Even at 167FSB it still works fine..I actually have my mouse and printer plugged into my Natural Keyboard's USB ports, and it works like charm.

Hey guys, I'm not saying that it works all around, but it's sure made a big difference with my Win2K system tonight. This is probably a silly test, but I always try to quickly draw tiny circles with the USB mouse on the screen to check the movement on the desk top. It's been jagged, but the circles are now noticeably smoother, faster, and tighter. Same in QuakeIII. So anyway, maybe it's only ASUS boards, or maybe it's only my boards....

I've always found the Logitech Opticals to be considerably more prcise them MS's. That's just my experience though.
