I came here back in 1996, and if nothing else, the high school blew my socks off!

I came here in 10th grade, middle of the term. After going through some paper work, a smal orientation and picking classes, I was sent to my 3rd period class, English Lit (or English II). Well I was sitting there, totally dumb founded. I had never imagined girls in America were so pretty. And they were wearing such **tight** clothes!!

Well the lunch bell rang, and I didn't know what to do. I was looking around, and this girl (She is probably the prettiest girl I have seen) came up to me, and asked me if I was new to the school. I told her I was, and she invited me to have lunch with her and her friends. Ofcourse I agreed.

She seemed very fascinated to meet me. She asked me all about where I am from, how did I come to US, and how do I like it. We got lunch and sat down at a table. Soon, her 7 female friends joined us. They were all so excited to meet me (???). I was getting asked all sorts of questions, about my country, classes, where I live and what not. One of the girls, even bought me ice cream 🙂

This was just like a movie! I come to the US, and first day of school, I am surrounded by girls. I couldn't believe it. It was just like an episode of some sitcom, or a Disney kids show. After lunch, the girl and one of her friend showed me around school. The school was exactly like I had imagined an American school would, huge, nice looking and full of hot chicks.

Well I stayed friends with her for 3 more days, after which I might have said something she didn't like and quit talking to me. I don't know what I did. During class on the 3rd day, power went out. It was just totally pitch black. Everyone was chatting and what not. The girl asked me if I wanted to come sit by her. I was half sleepy and I think I rudely said "NO". After that, she never talked to me. I still don't know why.

Other than that, I literally turned red, when I saw a girl and guy kissing. I had NEVER seen anyone kiss in real life, except in movies. Let's just say that it was a unique experience seeing that. Also, I was quite amazed to see Asian girls. I had never seen such pretty Asian girls in real life (only in martial arts movies), or even imagined one. Not to say that other girls were any less pretty, but still.

Something else which also baffled me was the cars in the student parking lot! Most of these cars were something very rich people drove back where I was from, and felt really proud to do so. Here, kids were driving Lexus' and Acuras. Not to mention that some kids even drove Corvettes and totally pimped out Supras.

I will probably never forget this experience. Although, if I could go back and change one thing, I would change the clothes I wore, and get a new haircut!. I am sure I must have looked like a complete dork.

i came here for my masters from india

now i work in a tech company in chicago, il, i really like the education system here, i went to USC, the courses were really good, better than almost every school in india,

as far as the women the women here are really good, but indian women are realy pretty as well, not all of em wear 'tight clothes' lol but they look pretty
all the same

I immigrated in 1988. My father got a job in seattle so we moved from BC. It's sad because BC was far nicer than seattle. I now live in NY. Were it not for some awesome peeps I've met here, I would have long since moved to vancouver, or perhaps san francisco.

Well, i came to the US from Venezuela, and the school system here in the US is a little different than the one in Venezueal, but i didn't have as big of a shock as TommyVercetti did. The girls are hot over here, but so are the ones in Venezuela. The only thing that actually shocked me was that the school was SO EASY, i didn't begin to actually learn new stuff until the year after, except for English, because i didn't know any english when i got here. As for everyone driving BMWs and Lexus, in the HS that i go to here in MS, people drive cheap and plain 1992 Civics and the sorts.

At first I went to a very rich suburb school (Jersey Village HS in Houston, TX), so naturally, a lot of people drove fancy cars. But after six months, I started going to a much poorer urban city school, and most cars were pretty crappy there. I think having a late model Honda Accord was considered good.

Anyone have any interesting stories? Ones that don't sound like episodes of 90210?

Yeah I got one. Some guy asked me if I wanted to eat some pussy. I said "No, I am a vegetarian". He said, "Don't worry, we got all sorts of pussy, White, Black, Asian, I am sure we can find you some vegetarian pussy". I was totally shocked and asked "You mean there are cats who eat vegetables?". The guy heard that, and left. I still don't know, are there cats which eat vegetables?

:Q:Q I call BS on this one... :Q:Q

Came here in '99 from the czech republic,
i dont really have a whole lotta stories, more like couple of insights

1) As a citized of a country that consumes the most per-capita beer, american beer sucks. SUCKS.
2) Your education system (highschool) is set up all weird, i never really got the whole school spirit thing with sports being the # priorty. As for the educational aspect, i graduated in 02 with straight 4.0. Highschool was insanely easy, i was about 3 years ahead of my peers.
3) Skipping classes was fun, since i ended up with over 100% in my bio i didnt feel the need to show up all that often. THANK GOD for drivers license at 16.
4) Senioritis is real a disease...and its contagious

My highschool experience was somewhat mixed, i mean it was fun, but i really cared less about getting involved and stuff. Especially community service and crap like that. But womens here are hot fo show... and get down 😀

I do love college though, the whole independance and intoxication thing has grown on me. I even have school spirit...especially after a few spirits.

Car wise i drove a 01 Focus, then 02 Taurus, then Turbo AWD Talon (my baby).

well
the first day i came here

Ya think? 😀 Does sound rather unlikely.

On a different ascept of this migration thread. I heard it's harder for a US citizen to go to Canada and get a job than it is for a canadian to go to the US and get a job. Also owning land in canada is harder for americans than canadians owning land in the US. Is any of this true?

Dunno really, may depend on who in the US(Individual vs Corp) wants Land in Canada. Can't answer the Job part either.

It's easier for immigrants to do everything here.

And what is that supposed to mean?

i hope people stop immigrating to Canada because we have too many immigrants as they are. we are losing our identity. Or the government should make it WAY HARDER to get in!!! right now Canada is the easiest place to immigrate in the world!!!

yeah it's the immigrants' fault that canada is losing its identity... to me it looks like canada is more influenced by american culture if anything
