Just a thread to share your experience if you grabbed a new 3GS today.

I'm still debating whether I'm going to run out to try and get one. Most reports are saying that the lines are very minimal.

I got one. The pre-order line only had about 10 people, so I was in & out in under 30 minutes. The other line had about 50 in it, and those who wanted a 32GB were out of luck.

Price is right. $199 for the 16gb. I can get it for $179 if I redeem my FIDO Dollars. Not sure if they'll give me any trade in on my old phone. Even still, it's too much for me right now. Maybe in a few months time.

Apparently, they started selling just before 6am! Steve Wozniak was there and asked if he could cut in line and be the first to buy one :D

I have the 32 gig GS. So far it's not any different as far as I can tell on application launch speeds. The video recording and camera is very nice however.

Got mine this morning from the 5th Ave Apple store in NY. Wasn't too bad. Got there after 6am. They opened at 7 and I was out by 7:15.

So far I'm liking it. Does seem more speeday than my 3G.

wow, really? We have a brand new 3GS 32gig, 8gig 3G jailbroken/unlocked, and a 2g unlocked/jailbroken, 3g clean install, and 2g clean install, and it's significantlyobviously faster against our phones.

Really?.. Here's a few just quick stats.

Engadget.com: 11 secs faster on 3GS (FULL LOAD)
Peggle: Was able to play the game before the 3G even got to the loading screen.
Bookworm: Playing before the 3G was half way done loading

I think the major differences are going to be with games. Not only that, but the added memory means less slow downs when switching between apps.

Overall, I'm super happy with the upgrade. The only thing left is background tasks. :D

Mine is chilling at a UPS depot for the entire weekend. Ah well... maybe I can finally upgrade my 3G iPhone to OS 3.0 and play with jailbreaking one last time until I get the 3GS on Monday.

Yup I got mine! Just haven't gotten time to play with it and probably won't have time until later tonight when I go home.

I was waiting on my paycheck today, so I couldn't preorder. Both the local AT&T store and Walmart (Carlisle, PA) were out of the black 32GB model, so I ordered one from Apple's site. Can't wait til it gets here.

Ok, so it is faster. Just wasn't faster in the apps I normally use. I noticed as I was switching apps that it switches MUCH faster.

Honest question here, what's the reasoning for replacing a 3G with a 3Gs?

I just can't seem to find enough reasons to justify replacing a 1 year old phone with something that doesn't at a whole lot of new features/functions.

Not flaming, really wondering.

Well, I'm replacing a first gen iPhone, so it's a big step up for me. Also, some people might be upgrading simply to get more storage.

got my dad the 32GB black 3GS...and goddamn is it faster than his old 2G.

att activated his line within an hour of buying it too. so far, no call drops, no 3G issues or anything! if att can keep this up, then kudos to them!

I sold my 3G for $300, so for another $100 and change, I thought it was worth it. I could have waited, but was afraid I'd get less money for the 3G. There are rumors that at&t will have hsdpa 7.2 running in this area by the end of the summer. If that pans out, I will be quite happy.
