did you ever see how much dog food expands

moshquerade

No Lifer
in a dog's stomach? it's a wonder they don't barf it back up all the time.
my dog had an upset stomach for some reason yesterday and the pieces of dog food that came back up looked to about 3-4 times their original size. our food doesn't expand like that once it hits the stomach does it?

Actually I believe it does, but we chew it considerably more than a dog does. The chewing + saliva makes a slush, then the stomach acid liquifies it more.

Dogs tend to swallow their food whole, which is why it "expands" like it does. Ever see a bowl of cheerios sitting in milk too long?

Mosh, how come whenever you reply in a thread its intelligent and amusing, and whenever you post a thread, its disgusting or morbid or just plain strange?

Just take some dog food and put it in a bowl of water for a day. That's how much it expands, baby!

Be sure to smell it after it's been in standing water for a long period of time. I'm sure it will be appetizing.

If a dog gets into some pork or grease, that can upset their stomach. You can pull back their food for a day and let them work it out if they start feeling bad. They can go up to 3 days without food...

The only downside is that if they're underfed, they may vomit yellow bile...but this is normal. Taking them to the vet will most-likely result in a prescription for something similar to immodium to help relax the digestive tract.
