Did you ever own a 1x (150KB/s) CD-ROM drive?

Yes, sure did...it was an old SCSI external drive that had a caddy to put the discs in...that thing was a tank, it probably weighed 10 pounds 😛

Edit: Can't remember what brand it was for the life of me. This was probably over 10 years ago though.

No, but I did own a 2x. On an old Gateway, IIRC. Ironically, I'm also not yet wearing pants (hey, it's Saturday morning!). I'm gonna vote for #2.

Yep, It was made by Reveal. The whole assembly came out and the top opened, much like a portable cd player. It was crazy. Wish I still had it. 🙁

OMG, you're right. I totally forgot about that.

I had the same one! I loved that CD-ROm...it ruled.

Yes, I did...

An add-on SCSI 1x CDROM package I bought at Costco for my brand new Gateway 386SX. I remember the kids going through the CD versions of the "Arthur" books. That must have been 14-15 years ago.

A couple years later, I remember lusting after the so-much-faster 4x CDROMs that cost about $400...

I had a 1X CD-Rom drive with my Amiga 500.

Still have 4 Toshiba XM-3401B 2X SCSI CD-rom drives that use a caddy. It came with an external scsi case I bought in a computer show almost 10 years ago.

The first PC I used was a 386 and it had a 1x CD ROM drive - and it only accepts them in caddy form! 🙂

And I remember the bump to 4X was bliss!

lol my first cd rom drive was external! W00t! It was about the size of a shoe box and the wire was thicker than printer cable.
