Did you build your dream machine?

What percentage of your income did you drop to build that ultimate gaming setup?

When I was in college, making about $10k a year, I some how managed to drop $2800 on a gaming rig. 28% of my gross income to play games not including the actual games... Really not sure how I made that happen but my family, collectively, received about $20 worth of xmas presents that year as a result.

My pocket book and additional common sense would prevent me from ever doing something like that again. Was fun as hell at the time.

i usually build the higest end desktop systems for work, doesn't cost me anything and I get the fun part of building it. 😀

yes I did. And it was painful. It wasn't a gaming setup though. Dual Xeon 2.4GHz processors, Supermicro X5DAE mobo, 2gb RAM, 10 hard drives. Ended up selling everything off for pennies of what I bought it for. Was damn fun when she was running though, so I can't say I regret it too much.

Do what makes you happy. Fuck the reality / logic of it.

Solid attitude Fullmetal. I shell out roughly $1,200 when I build a new computer every three-four years. All you have to do is upgrade every eight months.

I'm in the process of building my dream system right now... of course my dream involves keeping the budget under 1k.

Haha i dream of keeping the price of the graphics card under 1k!

I just built my first machine and i bought parts mailorder, so i generally saved up and bought the best bits a couple at time.

Only one way to learn is to do it!

I am very happy with the outcome, there are some things i would do different.
