Did we, or did the Congress actually do something? Last time I looked at CNN, Joe Biden was apparently off to Capital Hill to save the day...

OMG, they actually did something! Don't worry, they all got raises for it.

I am shocked and appalled that waited to the last possible second. Shocked I tell you.

raised taxes, kicked the can, cut no spending

Exactly, raised taxes on those individuals making over 400K and households over 450K....plus some others for estates and what not.

Its funny as a few are saying spending cuts should be handled completely separately from the fiscal cliff and that instead the main focus should be on taxes/revenue generation but I fail to see how these are two separate issues, the problem is we are short because we spend too much and generate too little, and simply raising taxes isn't nearly enough to cover the spread.

Right now it depends on who wins on the pay hike, Congress or Obama.

In order to issue an executive order for pay raises for federal workers, does Obama have to include congress (i.e. does it have to be for everyone?) ?

At the last possible second our pack of elected thieves came up with a short term stop gap to stall off doing something responsible. Now all those same thieves will tell the press about their heroic efforts to save the american public from the disaster called "paying our bills", and we can all rest easier knowing that absolutely no common sense has leaked into the system of finger pointing lies we call government.

Not surprising. They had months in the original "grand bargain" talks and the fiscal cliff resulted. They had over 500 days between the start of the fiscal cliff legislation and last night and all it did was more of the same.....kicking it down the road.

The article I read seemed to indicate yes, but that goes against what I had always been taught.
