Did we get UN approval before invading Afghanistan?

Technically, the Taliban had done about as much to the world as Saddam has, yet France and Germany and Canada sent troups to help in that effort. What makes this war so different?

I guess there's no proof linking Sadaam to the 9/11 attacks nor did he claim responsibility for it like a lot of the al Quida members did.

France and Germany didn't have much financial interest in the Taliban.

Al Qaeda was a terrorist group...we were going after the Taliban regime who ruled Afghanistan not just Al Qaeda.

Saddam supports Palestinian terrorist by giving money to their families. I'm still trying to figure out what the big difference is...why people are shrieking in the streets and burning American flags over this one.

We didn't get or need UN approval because the war in afganhistan was a counter-attack; we had been attacked first and, according to international law we are allowed to defend ourselves and counter-attack.

We weren't attacked by Afghanistan or the Taliban which is who we went after. Some people in their country were doing bad things. How is that war any more justified than what we're doing in Iraq?

I left out Russia. I should have wrote, "France, Germany, and Russia didn't have much financial interest in the Taliban."

The US proved the Taliban - Osama Bin Laden link. To strike back at OBL we had to invade Afghanistan, because that's where he was. That war was not preemptive.

The Taliban were aiding and protecting Al Queda, they had to be removed to get Al Queda. The 2 situations were entirely different.
