Did Viper 770 come in OEM?

A friend of mine just bought a Viper 770 32mb card which was sold to him as a 770 Ultra.
Looking up reviews of the card on the net, it shows the ultra with a fan on the heatsink. His card doesn't have one.
The card does say: viper 770 32mb on it.
What was the difference between the 770 and the ultra?
Does the fact it has 32mb on it make it an ultra?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Clock speed/mem speed was the difference. Purely speculation- it is possible that they are using a new build process for the chips and the newer ones don't require fans to run at Ultra speeds, though I would definately check to see what it is clocked at to find out(the Diamond Drivers, IIRC, have a utility to OC and should tell you the speed it is running at.

The Diamond Viper 770 did come in an OEM version, mostly available in Dell computers. I think they were referred to as Viper 770D. Since your video card came without a fan, that just means it is the regular Viper 770, not the ultra which means it runs slower and if you are using the Diamond drivers, won't come with an overclocking utility.

I put this card in my machine to test it. Using Nvidia 6.47 drivers with the OC reg hack to enable the overclocking utility it shows the card running at 125/150. SiSoft Sandra picks the card up as a TNT2.
Did the regular v770 come with 32MB's?

All TNT 2's shipped with 32 MB RAM, with the exception of the lower end "Vanta" models.

Sorry, not an Ultra.

Thanks to ALL
I'll let him know and hopefully he can get some of his money back.
He bought the card cheap enough that he'll probably still keep it
and just be a little P.O.'d

By the way how much did he buy it for. I have a Diamond 770 Ultra that I want to get rid of but didn't know about what I should ask for it.
