What also made it great was when the rest of the teams and crowd started to sing along. I also agree with what was already said, Maurice cheeks showed a lot of class.

she reminds me of somebody that's stoned.
If she was like 16+ i would probably assume she was stoned, but for now i'll chalk it up to being nervous. 😀

Agreed on all counts.

It takes guts to sing or speak in front of a crowd. I give her credit for not just dropping the mic and running off the court, and Maurice for helping out.

It's the unforgettable sight of Maurice Cheeks leaving his team's bench in Portland to put his arm around 13-year-old Natalie Gilbert as she stood at mid-court holding a microphone but having fumbled the words to our national anthem, all alone and visibly in despair. For 20 years, Marvin Gaye's version of "The Star-Spangled Banner" has been, for my money, the most compelling rendition ever. But now, I've got a new favorite, the duet of Gilbert & Cheeks, impromptu, off-key, slapped together as it was. I get goose bumps every time I see the clip of Cheeks hugging Gilbert, telling her everything is going to be okay.

Has anyone seen a video clip of this posted anywhere....?

😀

Yep, i saw it.. he was on CNN yesterday. It was great seeing him help the girl.

Wow.

I just saw the clip, and everyone's totally right. He did a really nice thing, someone needed to help that girl out, and the way he did it was probably the best way you could have. Kudos to Coach Cheeks.
