because most stores are not carrying it, and if they do, its super uber expensive comparing to several months ago...
 
Cost reductions. The PS3 was losing a couple of hundred of dollars per unit sold. The 40GB is cheaper to produce but even that is losing money currently. That may change though with an upcoming die shrink.
 
Just pre-ordered one from Amazon. Pre order lasted two minutes before they took it down lol

so that version of the ps3 is just a normal 80gb ps3 right? with the 4 usb port and backward compatibility. the only difference is the look of the machine?
 
It's an 80 gig ps3 with metal gear solid 4 and a dual shock controller. I have to believe it's also the 65nm refresh so it should run cooler/use less juice
 
There is supposed to be some overpriced gunmetal grey limited edition MGS PS3, but the normal $499 MGS bundle has:

- 80 GB black PS3 with PS2 BC confirmed by Sony (see SonyStyle.com). Rumors of it switching the Cell from 90nm to 65nm, but I havene't seen anything official on this
- the MGS 4 game
- dual shock 3 rumble controller

Available June 12.
 
Yea.. I'll just have to hope it comes back sometime. Or try my luck at a B&M.. but wanted Amazon so I didn't have to pay tax. Hah.

Ebgames has it up for pre-order, but they're forcing you to buy a bluetooth headset with it and it's $560 + tax and shipping

The real kicker is the Limited Edition bundle PS3 is only a 40GB model, so it's even more overpriced than it appears. Gun Metal Gray color, MGS4LE, and loss of BC (and 40GB) for only $100 more!
