i can't find any new radeon 9100 pci vid cards. i can only find used or refurbished ones, is it because they stopped making it? I was going to get the 9200SE, but the performance of that can't compare with the 9100.

I believe ATI has transitioned its production to the 9000/9200 chips. The 9100 was essentially a repackaged 8500 core. The R9000Pro isn't *terrible* (though the 9200SE is), but you'd probably be better off looking at a 9600/9600Pro or a GF4Ti4200/4600 than a 9000/9200.

You can still find 9100?s if you hunt around but supply seems to be drying up pretty good. Not sure if they are still making them or not.

Might look into a Sapphire 9600 128MB, they are around $95 and overclock quite nicely.

Yep they quit making the 9100. I believe they also quit making the 9000 and now they low end card is the 9200. There's still 9100 left over, just gotta look around for them a little.

They stopped production. I was in the same boat as you--looking for a 128MB 9100 (Visiontek is the name I came up with) and I was unable to find one anywhere that was being sold as new. When people say "They're around, you just have to look" I have to think that they haven't actually looked themselves. Because I looked--and I'll bet you have too--and I could not find a new one ANYwhere. Just listings that said "Out fo Stock/Discontinued" etc...

I ended up buying one on eBay last night. Cost me $90, and I thought that was fine. It's the best PCI card out there as far as I could tell, so I'm happy. Keep checking eBay; I'm afraid that's the only advice I can give you.

Good Luck!
