Did the Twelve Colonies of Man, in BSG Reimagining, ever do any FTL exploration?

Since all their colonies were in the same system. When the Holocaust happens, they don't seem to know much about whats outside that system. When fleeing from the Cylons, they're jumping randomly further and further out.

Since they obviously had FTL technology and space craft, why were they not doing any exploration? Even after the end of the first Cylon war, nothing.

Ron Moore conscientiously made BSG "not Star Trek". That was never dwelled upon, so the answer is basically no.
