I live in Boston and recently the price of organic Apples here shot up about .70/lbs...this happen for anyone else? Usually they're not that much more expensive than regular apples, but at that price now I can't afford to buy them...

Stop being a smug, tree hugging, Prius driving, liberal hippie and just by regular apples like everyone else.

Just buy the regular apples then. Studies show organic foods are no better nutritionally, and in blind taste tests people can't tell the difference. Claims that they're safer have also been disproven. Stop wasting your money. The only organic food I eat is the stuff we grow ourselves.

Cue DrPizza to come and talk about how he gets all his apples so much more fresh, cheap, and organic than any grimy city dweller.

it's because he lives in the magic part of new york where the temperature is never above 80, there's no humidity, and it never snows :p

Any dumbass would know that apples aren't in season in NY. Well, except for some particular grimy city dwelling dumbass who cues me to come into threads. :p And, when in season, all I want for free... hoping for a good year; I'd like to make 50 gallons of cider.

organic milk just tastes better.. it's true, you poor bastards who believe otherwise

"Organic" milk like many so-called "organic" foods doesn't taste better because it's "organic." It tastes better because it's a boutique food product produced at lower quantity and higher attention to quality. Any NON-"organic" milk from a boutique dairy will taste just as good.

That is the entire problem with the "organic" movement. It's become confused with boutique foods and thus people think they taste better because they're "organic" only... not because they're boutique foods.

But that's all falling apart now as "organic" has hit mainstream and mass produced "organic" foods hit the market that, or course, taste NO different from non-"organic" mass produced foods.

Quite simply, "organic" foods are a bullshit waste of money, time, productivity and space.

I haven't noticed a price increase out here in western MA. Although, I would think that the cost for organic apples would normally rise this time of year... it's been like 10 months since the last organic harvest, and organic/untreated fruit generally doesn't last as long as treated fruit. So, that means you have to transport your fruit from a much further distance, with a much greater loss per shipment, meaning higher costs.

That's all just a laymans speculation, though. I generally just buy whatever apples look the best, organic or not.

I call shens. OP lives in Boston and is complaining about a .70/lb increase in the price of apples? By the way, apples aren't in season now organic or not. Of course, the grocery stores have done their best to convince consumers that they should have any fruit/veg available at any time of the year. If you're concerned enough to be eating organic produce then, you should be aware of how the food gets from the farm to your fridge.

October is apple month, and when the best apples come to MD; the glorious winesap. Far under appreciated due to the blemished skin, but the best tasting apple by a good bit.
