Did the price of natural gas skyrocket or something?

My gas bill last year was $5-10 every month. This year I've seen $15+/month and last month was $34. WTF?

In a nut shale, yes. ;)

Basically the last few years have been unseasonably warm, resulted in glut of NG,, so the manufacturers reduced their rig counts, which led to smaller stored supplies. In come a few blizzards, draw down ratio exceeding storage, so you're beginning to see the rise in NG prices.

It's a good time to invest in NG companies, some are looking to export them as LNG to China as well. Consider this a tip ;)

Although it's up slightly in the past few weeks, in the past few years NG has been pretty consistently in the $3-5 range...

Don't disagree with your prognostication, though.

Damn, no wonder my gas bill for the past month was about $23. Past few months it's always been like $10 or so.

I think my taxes and delivery fees for natural gas are more than 20 dollars each month alone, so even if I use absolutely no gas I still pay more than you.

Service Charge: $15.35
Delivery Charge: $57.97 (this goes up the more gas I use)
Weather Normalization: $3.94
Cost of Gas: $134.57 (Mcf billed - 26.100 WNA/Mcf $0.1511) Cost of Gas/Mcf 5.1559
Franchise Fee: $10.59
City Tax: $2.51
County Tax: $2.72

I guess in August Service charge was $12.25, Franchise Fee of 1 dollar and taxes of 50 cents with total cost of gas and delivery 6 dollars.

Natural gas is the cheapest it's been since 1995 here in Michigan. .45 a ccf right now, in 2006 it peaked at 1.12.

It's going to be hilarious to see how expensive NG gets in Europe, when Russia recoups its losses from Cyprus.

Holy crap what are you using that gives you such a small bill, a natural gas candle? lol. Mine is about $95/mo which is actually pretty low, or at least I thought so.

Edit: yikes just checked and I actually owe $196. Guess they'll adjust that throughout the summer when I use way less.

And I thought my custom thermostat system was going to save me money! But guess I used more this year than last year.

In a way, if ever it gets cheaper to heat with electricity then it will be better for the environment anyway if everyone switches to electric heat. At least for those of us where electricity comes from hydro electric dams.

I live in SoCal, so I'm just warming my apt from 60' to 72'.
