Did the previous owner mod my 6800 Ultras bios?

Hello, I recently got ahold of a 6800Ultra, the previous owner stated it could be overclocked to Ultra Extreme Speeds (450/1200). While I thought that was great, I really didn't care, as my cpu is bottlenecking the card as is (2.2ghz Barton), so imo, the extra overclocking was welcomed, but negliable. When I received the card, I figure I would just leave it alone at the regular default speeds, and I did. However, I decided to install coolbits just too see the clock freqencies, and lo and behold, it was clocked at 450/1200.

So, I'm thinking of two possible reasons.

IIRC, for a card to boot up at a higher speed like that, it must be apart of the bios. Overclocking through coolbits/powerstrip is through software, and because I didn't change the settings to the way it is now or none of that stuff was installed before, it must be a hardware issue.

Am I wrong or does the clock frequency stay with whatever settings it last had before it shut down?

Is there a program I can download that'll let me look at the settings of my cards BIOS? Perhaps even change it to the default settings?

Usually I don't worry about overclocking, but this is a $400 videocard, and I cannot afford to replace it if it breaks. Temps are hovering at 51C Idle, and at around 65C full load. These temps appear to be fine, so I am beginning to wonder, is there anything to worry about?

Are videocards like CPUs, where as long as no extra voltage is applied, temps are within check, and only the clock speed is adjusted, the card will still run safely? I have not seen any artifacts, or any curruption that is typical with overclocking. Apparently its running fine.

That said, I would like the extra performance if I can get it, but I am not willing to take stupid risks to achieve that performance. What would you guys do in my situation?

EDIT: Ok, I was bored and did some testing. I was bored and running 3dmark05, comparing to my friends new Athlon64/X800XL platform, and I did notice some artifacts, but none were apparent in Doom3. So it does appear the card is running faster than it should.

Suggestions on how to get it back to its original clock speed/settings?

underclock it in coolbits? can't you go into the bios for it and change it anyways?

Well, I rather not have it boot up into unstable settings everytime I reinstall the card. It doesn't have a "regular" bios like a motherboard would, it would need to be reflashed to change settings.

I'm thinking of just downloading a regular set of BIOs, and just flashing the card with whatever default settings.

Alright, I flashed the bios to the original version, however, I do have one more question I will create in a seperate thread.

Thanks.
