Did The Matrix rip off Fist of Legend?

Weird . . . I was just watching the end of Fist of Legend (w/Jet Li) and the ending fight sequence is almost identical to the Neo/Morpheus fight, and has a few things that were in the fight with Agent Smith in the subway, as well. Even the "come get some" finger motions.

Homage? Or ripoff?

<< i dunno....i've heard it was more of a blade ripoff >>

Blade was released late 1998, and the Matrix was released in 1999. Odds are the Matrix was actually finished the spring of 1999. I don't see how the directors would have had the time to "rip off" Blade's action scenes.

Same Hong Kong films veteran fight choreographer?

Actually one or two scenes were supposedly inspired by the anime Ghost In The Shell.

That wouldn't surprise me. Ghost in the Shell had some great fight scenes.

Total ripoff. There are tons others in that movie including another Jet Li movie, Drunken master two with Jackie Chan. Almost all the fighting scenes were direct or partial copies of other fighting movies. The Matrix itself rips off Fist of Legend,Tron, the television show "The New Adventures of Johnhy Quest," 12 Monkies, The City of Lost Children, and other selected films.
I hate that movie with a passion because it is such a blatent rip off of so many other works and the duo director teams insists on many occasions that they are the most original things to come out of hollywood in a long time. Bullsh|t, you just have an impressive movie collection that you like to steal from. I cannot wait to see what other movies the new sequels ripoff.

The Matrix was choreographed by Yuen Wo Ping, who also did the choreography for Fist of Legend, Crouching Tiger, Last Hero in China, Iron Monkey, Drunken master, Tai Chi Master, etc.

You can't ripoff yourself. :)

For those who have seen Ghost in the Shell know what a ripoff Matrix is when it comes to the lobby scene ;)
