Did that "bug" ever get fixed with the 686B (KT133A) Southbridge and the SB Live!??

My brother actually reminded me of this.....

I am selling my A7V133 mobo to a friend and he has an SBLive! Soundcard...I know at the time when I purchased the A7V133 there was some sort of bug with the 686B Southbridge and the SBLive! I was curious if that had been taken care of by now and how would I go about downloading what I need to fix the potential problem?

Thanks!

Some people fix it by moving the Live around and switching PCIs... some people just give up and buy a GTXP or a SC.

I never experienced any of those issues. (KT133A and SBLive)

I also never got any corrupted files copying from 1 IDE channel to
the other.

Having said that, I will still be dumping my SBLive for a better (read
non-Creative) product in the very near future.

VIA also claims that their newer drivers take care of any potential problems. I don't know about Asus, but the BIOS on my Abit KT7A board has been tweaked to deal with this too.

Personally I've had no problem with my SB Live! and mobo.

No problems here. I have an A7V133 myself.

Just out of interest I have my SBLive in the 3rd PCI slot (recommended) and I've set the IRQ to 9.

VIA claims that the issue has been fixed, either through a combination of the latest VAI 4-in-1 drivers (version 4.31 and up have the fix incorporated, but must be installed AFTER the SBLive drivers have been installed in order for the patch to apply), or through BIOS updates from your motherboard manufacturer.

As to how to manually set IRQs, Windows 98/SE/ME make no restrictions (well, not many restrictions) on setting them. Just go to the device manager, and enable manual settings. As for Win2K/XP, please read my FAQ: Why are all my devices using one IRQ in Win2K?

Same here... I've had absolutely zero problems with VIA.

VIA's Engineers have written an article that deals with the 686B SouthBridge and the Live and Audigy cards.

It's a balanced and coherent article that neatly sums up the situation.
