Did SystemWorks fry my video?!?!

edro

Lifer
I have a Radeon 9700 Pro AIW in a Shuttle SK41G.

I haven't any problems with it yet.... until this morning. I installed Norton Systemworks 2003 this morning and after I rebooted, the video in the bios had artifacts all over it! Sooo... I restarted and they were still there. I booted it clear into Windows, but they are still there (they look different though) When I move windows around, the artifacts move and change, but they are always there. They are real big... hard to explain 🙁

Anyways, I would doubt that Systemworks would mess with my video (especially in the BIOS), but it happened right directly after the reboot after the installation!

Arg... I haven't had time to take the video card out yet and test it in another machine. I will when I get home tonight.

If it was a driver conflict, the BIOS screen would be unaffected. Try reseating the videocard; sometimes that does it.

No, I haven't done any troubleshooting yet... I will when I get home though. It's just kinda scary... I don't want anything to happen to my $300 vid card 😀

Ok, well, I re-seated it and turned it off for a few minutes. It cleared up most of the artifacts, but there are still a few...but only in a few spots (more specifically... the icons)

Here they are...

It ONLY does it there... I do not see it anywhere else. Those icons are randomly on my desktop... I just moved them all together to make that example image.

Anyone have any ideas?

that's odd... I had that icon artifacts when I o/c'ed my vga ram too high. btw, did you uninstall the systemworks??

note: fix the link 😀

Hmmm... it is in a Shuttle XPC case, right beside a USB card... I wonder if it is too hot? And yes, I un-installed System Works... Damn, that is a monstrosity 😀

well... just for troubleshooting, try to remove that usb card. also check whether the 9700's fan is running smoothly. or, you might try to plug the card in another computer.

Been running SystemWorks for years and never saw anything like this. I doubt it is Norton related. Corrpution is usually a heat issue due to lack of airflow or too high of an overclock. Make sure the fan on the card is spinning when the pc is on.
