i ran the Warhead bench on all Enthusiast except motion blur on performance (wanted to turn it off)

here it is at stock clocks 576/1242/2000
DirectX 9.0c CUSTOM 1X @ Map: ambush @ 0 1680 x 1050 AA 0xx
==> Framerate [ Min: 12.53 Max: 25.88 Avg: 21.39 ]

OCd to 700/1430/2350
DirectX 9.0c CUSTOM 1X @ Map: ambush @ 0 1680 x 1050 AA 0xx
==> Framerate [ Min: 14.22 Max: 30.60 Avg: 25.22 ]

are those the kind of gains u usually see with this kind of OC? or should i be seeing higher gains with that OC? maybe its not stable at that :confused:

What did you expect from enthusiast settings? That's rather big jump. 4 fps jump is 20% or so.

21.5% OC, 18% performance increase. That's very close to linear, about as close as you are going to see out of any overclock(you will very rarely get that close).

Here's the same settings with my 4870 1GB. You'll see the score is very linear also to the increase in core clock.

4870 1GB Stock 750/3600
DirectX 9.0c CUSTOM 1X @ Map: ambush @ 0 1680 x 1050 AA 0x
==> Framerate [ Min: 19.97 Max: 35.84 Avg: 29.18 ]

4870 1GB OC 825/3860
DirectX 9.0c CUSTOM 1X @ Map: ambush @ 0 1680 x 1050 AA 0x
==> Framerate [ Min: 20.26 Max: 40.04 Avg: 31.95 ]

OC with AA

DirectX 9.0c CUSTOM 1X @ Map: ambush @ 0 1680 x 1050 AA 2x
==> Framerate [ Min: 18.49 Max: 32.20 Avg: 26.44 ]

DirectX 9.0c CUSTOM 1X @ Map: ambush @ 0 1680 x 1050 AA 4x
==> Framerate [ Min: 17.55 Max: 31.07 Avg: 25.38 ]

DirectX 9.0c CUSTOM 1X @ Map: ambush @ 0 1680 x 1050 AA 8x
==> Framerate [ Min: 14.93 Max: 30.33 Avg: 23.62 ]

cool so i guess those new benchmarks after OC are about whats normal. i dont play Crysis exclusively but the only way of testing the OC was with the Crysis benchmark tool i have. i am mostly doing GTA4 right now and GRID but GRID runs 60+ fps maxed out.

also i did that OC with stock cooler. under load my card was doing 82C where before the OC it was high 70Cs

Well, if you don't really need the extra performance from the overclock then just don't do it imo. Pointless to be wasting power and potentially (though unlikely) shortenning the lifespan of your GPU.

You should really considering increasing the fan speeds if your OC. Mine @ load OC runs about 64-65c with 40% fan speed.

I usually run with vsync on, so once I hit my 60 FPS it's not going to use any more power anyway. I mainly just want to keep my min FPS as high as possible.

Voltmodding is really when you start to shortenning the lifespan of your GPU.

good replies. i now understand OCng vid cards a lil more. my fan in riva tuner is custom, it goes up in speed gradually till it hits 85C and at 85C it goes to 85% fan speed. i have to mess with rivatuner a lil more, its not properly increasing the speed like it used to a few weeks ago.
