Left an instant read thermometer in apork shoulder I was smoking for about half an hour. The thermometer is deformed but still intact. Battery still works. Worried about any outgassing issues that may make this unfit for human consumption. Smoker temp was about 225 during the time smoked that thermometer. .....sigh..... pork looks good too....

No way I'd toss it if it was well cooked. Cut out the piece around the thermometer if you're worried.

I wouldn't worry about it. If you leave the basement every so often, you're bombarded with all manner of toxins, mutagens, and carcinogens. A little plastic in your pork is nothing. If you don't leave the basement, you got radon gas :^D

Throw that shit away and find properly cooked food, your health is not worth it.

If you stay in the basement, you die from Radon. It's really a no win.

Probably teaming with carcinogens.

Let us know in 20-25 years if you develop some type of cancer.

Maybe he'll become the pork Monster with the ability to take temperatures accurately from thousands of yards away.

There might be a weird understanding where some porn studio tries to hire him but in the end it'll probably only cement his place in history.

I agree with zane. I once continued to smoke and devour a shoulder after one of the coolant packs ruptured into the brine the night before.

meh. whatever poisoning/cancer/death happens, it will be worth it.

No, you did not ruin, poison or, degrade the meat, at least from leaving the thermometer in it. Buy a new thermometer and enjoy the meat. For the future, consider leaving the cooking to professionals. :D

Eat the part of the pork that isn't contaminated if you are that worried about it.

Just sacrifice a part of the pork and you can still enjoy it.
