I have to read some stuff on Plato and his analogy of the cave for Religious studies, and I've read 2 inferrences that Plato believed in God, and that Socrates believed in God.

I do not think they did (400BC scholars in Greece, belived in God? Hmm).

The material is on the philosophy of religion, but says specifically that both these peopel believed in God, and in both cases, a capital G is used, not a small g or in the plural sense (god or gods).

Am I wrong in thinking these two people did NOT believe in God?

Why not, everyone back then did - just that they had more they had more imaganitive names than just God - aka Zeus, Helene and so on. Jesus would be a Half-God, since he is the child of God and a mortal - like Hercules so to speak ;)

The many gods of ancient Greek (and later adopted by Roman) culture were not representations or aspects of a monolithic monotheistic God. These gods were considered individuals in their own right.

I am guessing but I think when you write "God" you mean the judeo-Christian deity Jehovah. Nope those guys had different Gods which they believed in as much as people believe in God now.

Here is something on the subject.

I think that throughout time people who examine themselves sometimes experience a realization that they are a part of something greater than they could ever imagined. Whether it is God or a state of consciousness may not matter.
