hi!

some time ago there were rumours that nvidia possibly wanted to buy 3dfx. as far as i remember they stayed rumours. i thought that in the end nvidia decided not to buy 3dfx.

now my brother claims that they actually DID buy 3dfx. what is true now?

i would be thankful if you could perhaps link newspages or quote from pc magazines...

thanks a lot in advance! ;-)

How about Nvidia's front page? ;)

<< NVIDIA and 3dfx have signed an agreement for NVIDIA to purchase certain graphics assets of 3dfx, a pioneer and recognized leader in graphics technology. These assets include, but are not limited to, all the patents, pending patent applications, trademarks, brand names and chip inventory related to the graphics processor business of 3dfx. >>

does that mean 3dfx is still an independent company but they have nothing to sell anymore (because all rights are sold to nvidia) ?

Do a search here or go to Nvidia or 3dfx sites there is plenty of info, but this is from 3DFX

<< Under this agreement, nVidia will acquire certain, specific assets from 3dfx including technology, company and product brands and other assets. In addition, the 3dfx board of directors has recommended to our shareholders the dissolution of the company over the next few months. Until that time, however, 3dfx products will remain available at various retail and online locations, and we will continue to support our current and future customers. For additional information, please see the press releases that were issued by 3dfx on December 15, 2000. >>
