i was in a dilemma between radeon and matrox cards about a half year ago, and ended up going with the ATi after hearing how it is superior for video playback. on a second thought, most of that discussion i have read was regarding g400 which is an earlier generation product compared to g550/p750. g400 lacked x-y interpolation for 2d video making them a poor choice for that task according to what i have read. now, did the later generation card get any better in that regard? i dont play any 3d games, and not looking for something outrageously expensive like parhelia. again, focus here is wmv9/divx502/dvix511/ogm - no gaming performance needed at all. i did own a g400 back in the days so i know how gorgeous it looks for 2d desktop although i didnt watch much video back then.

c'mon, no one knows?
g550s can be found for as low as $39 shipped, damn tempting.

well, the problem is that most ppl here never owned or even never thinked of owning a matrox card since they are in general gamers. as fas as i know matrox is unbeatable in 2d quality (crispness, colors etc) but I dont really know about video. though i am sure it will be above average. In general matrox always paid attention in good color representation and quality of image.
