Did Nazi Germany allow religious institutions?

Religion in Nazi Germany

Overview: This course shall examine the character and function of religion in Nazi Europe, paying particular attention to the relationship of religion to the Nazi regime and Nazi ideology. We will consider not only Christianity (both Protestantism and Catholicism) and Judaism, but also Nazi involvement in what we will loosely term "the occult". We will explore the relationship of each religion to the Third Reich, as well as the relationship between these religions. Throughout the course we will have the opportunity to discuss issues such as collaboration, resistance and persecution. Ethical and moral challenges presented to Jews and Christians by Nazi "policy", such as the Holocaust, euthanasia and the war itself, will be the main focus of this course.
