Did my router go bad at the same time I installed XP?

HELLLLLP! Everything was fine with my network / internet through my Linksys 4-port router until I installed XP Pro on both computers. Now, strange things are happening........Neither computer could access the internet (or the router's setup utility), so I played with TCP/IP with no luck - I switched back to default settings (detect everything). I then checked my cabling to the router (even though it hasn't been bothered in 4 months), and plugged both computers into different ports. IT WORKED!! I had internet on both systems!! After a while, I rebooted and again..... no internet. I tried the port switch trick again with no luck, so I went to bed. This morning I started the first computer and it was just as I left it (no connection), then I started the second system and it had internet access. I came back to the first computer, went into IE and it was online!! after a few minutes, (and no changes to windows) I rebooted, and the 1st computer had no internet, even after several reboots. I'm typing this on the 2nd system before it loses access as well.
It seems to me that my router has gone bad at the exact same time I switched to XP. I know its not likely, but what else could it be???? Please help!!
Oh yeah, if I bypass trhe router, the 1st computer has internet access like normal.

Specs:
Cox@Home cable internet
Linksys BEFSR41 4-port router
SMC Etherpower II NIC in 1st system 10/100
Realsys NIC in 2nd system 10/100

Check your IP addresses , Also don't reboot - power down for 10 - 30 seconds ,then restart .
- Nic cards with XP need a power off/on cycle , to set IP's correctly(sometimes)

Don't know about Linksys BEFSR41 ,But check IP's , if all IP's are setup O.K. then try
turning router , modem and computers off wait 30 seconds turn modem on ,wait a mintue,
then router on ,wait a mintue ,then power on the computers. ( then IP's may come up right)

I have had issues with ftps and my router since using XP, going back to 2k solved this, not sure why..perhaps something to do with the router and QOS?
