Did my MB just die?

Was setting up a UT game online when out of the blue my machine shutdown. Tried restarting but nothing. The fans are turning and the drives are spinning up but all I have is 4 leds showing red on the back of my MSI Pro2a. The book says that code means a processor problem so I swapped the Duron 900 w/a Duron 700 that I know is working. Still the same thing. Pulled all card and mem out, left just the cpu. Same thing. Disconnected the other drives from the PS. Still the same 4 red leds. Any other tests to try before I chunk the MB?

Yea, I did reset cmos, pulled the battery also. And about the mem, didnt even have it plugged in. I was just trying to get the leds past the all red state.

Huumm , Interesting , The cpu is the cause . But You said you Switched it.... HHEErrmm.. Maybe your cmos memory didn't clear? or somthing strange... Because usually once u change the cpu and reset the cmos... Eveything is beloved patriot-dory! 😛 Sorry Bro. No clue then. LMK if you figure it out.

actually as of late the MSI pro2a have been known to just die, their is a reistor or something that fails....... i'd contact MSI. Do a search and you'll find a bunch of worried pro2a users

have you tried changing your power supply? it could be that your PSU went out on you, as i had a machine that just stopped on my in the middle of a game (Q3 actually, hehe). in the end, i found out that is was my power supply that went bad, and when i got a new one to replace it, all was good again.

good luck 🙂

I used to have a Pro2A and it was having problems like you describe, on rare occasions it would boot.

BTW, it worked fine for 8 months.

I bought a MSI 266A-RU board and it had random reboot problems.

I have a Antec 1030B case. Got to poking around and noticed the 5V and 3.3V PS was only like 160 or 180W max load
on those lines together. (the PSU was "rated" for 350W).

So on inspiration, I went and bought 450W PS and installed it.

No random lockups or reboots, stuck in old Pro2A and it worked like a champ!!!

Go figure!
