Did my Hard Drive die?

I booted up my computer yesterday morning before work. It went through the usual BIOS screen, did the hardware checks, then, when it should have started loading windows, it instead began to load a DOS screen with a "progress" bar at the bottom of the screen. This began to load, but when it got to the second notch on the bar, (this took a fairly large amount of time, 5-10 minutes or so) it told me that my system folder was corrupt. It suggested that I reinstall windows, but I was unable to.

Does anyone know what this could be?

It does sound like a corruption on your HD, but I don't know if it's actually dead or not.

What OS do you have? You can try booting into the Recovery console (if you have 2K or XP), and running a chckdsk from the console, letting it fix all errors.
