Did my CPU just die? :(

Well I just got my Athlon XP-M 2500+ today from newegg. Put it in the NF7-S, does 2.2 on stock voltage. Later on I get it to 2.4 by upping the Vcore to 1.7. I start playing a game and all of a sudden the system shuts down. I restart to find that I get just a black screen and nothing happening. Did my cpu just die? if so, can I RMA it to newegg and get a new one? i reset cmos, that didn't work

Overclocking is a choice you make and it seems unfair to saddle Newegg with a burned-out processor after heavily overclocking and overvolting it. I think you might need to take responsibility if it failed under this circumstance. But give the system some time to cool off (an overloaded power supply may take a few minutes before it'll come on again, for example), and see what happens.

i agree with mech does the cpu post when you turn on the box if so its prob ok. check all cables and cards to ensure they are properly seated

Try resetting the bios. When I was overclocking sometimes it just wouldn't boot stable anymore. Resetting the bios usually worked.

it could be your video card that could have puked. try taking the cpu out and reseating it and maybe that will bring it back to life. also try another vid card if you have one to see if that could be your issue. sounds like you cooked that cpu though based on the overclocking you mentioned....
