Did my Chyang Fun CF-S968L roast my Geforce4 Ti4200??

Could an idle Geforce4 Ti4200 overheat in a non-ventilated Chyang Fun CF-968L? I can't imagine that it would actually get hot enough in there to actually damage the video card.

I know I had read that this case gets hot, but I didn't think much of it. I leave all my machines, including this one, on 24/7 and last night it would not come out of standby mode. After I rebooted the screen had vertical white lines about 1/4" wide all the way across the monitor. I shut it down, took out the Geforce4 Ti4200 and threw in an old Geforce2 GTS-V and it works fine. The Geforce4 was very warm when I took it out. I will test it in another machine after I get home from work today, I sure hope it's not fried.

Regardless, I am going to drill some holes in the side of the clear panel near the video card and maybe even fasten a intake fan toward the front of the side panel.

Oh, come on. I know a bunch of you guys bought these things from Newegg when they were on sale. Nobody has had any heat related issue with it? Has anybody modded theirs with intake fans?

I did find some interesting stuff in this thread:

http://forums.sudhian.com/messageview.cfm?catid=45&threadid=40933&STARTPAGE=1

Including this quote from the AMS tech support guy:
Due to numerous complaints about side vents on the CF968/968L drawing too much dust inside the system and additional electronic interferences, we decided to drop this feature on the new eCube.

So maybe drilling holes is not the solution. Maybe I'll throw a squirrel cage blower in to blow some air over the video card. Any other thoughts??

i had a gf4ti4200 go out in my chyang fun but it was the video cards fault, not the case. a large number of ti4200 cards from that era suffered from a bad set of capacitors. i had a total of 3 of those video cards (gainward) all bought around the same time, all fail with bulging capacitors.
check out your video card, it could just be defective like mine were.
btw - they all were replaced free with an rma to gainward. - they know about this problem.

My Geforce 4 Ti4200 was a 64mb PNY brand. It was late last night when I discovered it may be bad. I will look at it closer when I get home this evening.
