Did my ceiling fan just piss oil on my kitchen floor?

Last night, my wife woke me up saying there was water coming from the ceiling fan in the kitchen. Sure enough, the floor had a water splatter right under the ceiling fan, and the glass dome was filled with a couple ounces of yellowish liquid (looking exactly like piss). When I removed the glass dome, there was more moisture/condensation evident, to the point that it was causing drips to form.

Needless to say, I've never run across this situation before. I went up in the attic and didn't see any moisture under the first floor ceiling at the plumbing lines or anywhere else, and the roof is intact. Has anyone else ever heard of a ceiling fan spewing forth water, and presumably a water/oil mix?

Old style hunter fans (and perhaps others) had an oil reservoir for the bearings, so yes, it might have pissed on your floor.

Is there any insulation gaps where the jbox is? It almost sounds like a condensation issue. Could be oil from the fan but it's odd it would suddenly just spew out like that.

We had this happen with two bathroom exhaust fans that vented into the attic (don't ask, long story). Turns out that they condensed heavily in the winter and the water would drip back down the exhaust tubing onto the fan and then drip down into the bathrooms.

Fix was insulated the exhaust tubing and having them properly terminated to vent outside through the roof.

EDIT: can't spell

Cold attic? Then I would say you have a condensation problem.

I would say take the thing down and apart. I sure as heck wouldn't use it anymore. I don't see an easy way for condensate to form, wheres it gonna happen, on the inside of the j-box? And how much?

I've never seen a motor actually dump measurable oil at random either.

It's not piss is it? (rats)
